Your connected car app won’t help you recover your vehicle if it’s stolen

Whether you drive a newer car with its own manufacturer’s app, or are using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in an older vehicle, the days of having to choose between 6 radio stations and reading road signs are long gone. The technology of the Starship Enterprise has come to the Ford Focus and every other family car. Just speak your command aloud and your car will play any song, find you the nearest petrol station or somewhere to eat, or even text your nearest and dearest that you’ll be late home. All without taking your eyes off the road or your hands off the steering wheel. Where will it all end?

Connected car apps are for convenience and not security

One area where all this technology fall short is when it comes to security. Thatcham Research recently highlighted the gap between consumer expectations and the technical capability of connected cars when it comes to security. One motorist who discovered this the hard way is Ian Fogg, whose Kia was stolen. When Fogg approached Kia for help finding his stolen car, he was told he would have to complete a new form every time he requested the car’s location. Kia told him that, despite them being able to track the car in real-time, UK laws prevented them from sharing this information. In their words, Kia Connect was for “convenience” rather than security.

Technology (and human detectives) that will help to recover your stolen car

The most effective to way to be able to trace a stolen vehicle is to have a tracker fitted as soon as you buy the car. Unfortunately, not all trackers are created equally. The signal from many tracking devices cannot be detected when the car is located in an underground car park or storage area, or being transported inside a metal shipping container. Increasingly, cars are stolen to order by organised crime gangs. They are then shipped overseas or stripped down for parts, often before the owner has had chance to report the theft to the Police. Coyote Secure uses patented Traquer® technology that penetrates concrete and underground car parks, as well as metal shipping containers. Even better, once an owner reports their vehicle stolen to Coyote, a Europe-wide team of in-house detectives begin the search for it. Once located, the detectives liaise with the Police to recover the vehicle and transport it back to its owner.

Coyote Secure has built a community of 5 million motorists across Europe over the past 8 years. With a car stolen every 4 minutes in the UK, speed of response has never been more important. The reality is that the Police simply don’t have the resources to be able to search for individual stolen vehicles. Coyote Secure does the leg work in a timely manner. By the time we liaise with local Police they are there to make an arrest – and we are there to bring your car home to you.

We are offering the Coyote Secure tracker for free (normally £300) when you order fitting through our network of authorised technicians. Fitting costs just £99, with a monthly subscription only £24.99. 91% of vehicles fitted with Coyote Secure are recovered within 48 hours of being reported to us, mostly in original condition. That’s less than a pound per day.
